WACE Physics runs through motion, forces, fields, waves and the nature of physics across its ATAR units, and assesses them with extended responses, data analysis and a practical investigation.
The examination asks for physics in sentences as often as in equations, so students need to be able to describe a model, justify a choice and comment on evidence.
STUCK IN PHYSICS is an independent tutoring service and is not affiliated with the School Curriculum and Standards Authority; lessons are simply built around what the course asks students to do.
Concepts, Models and Calculation
Each area of the course is taught as a model with a picture, a small number of governing ideas and clear limits: motion and forces first, then energy and momentum, then fields, then wave behaviour.
Calculation follows the model rather than leading it. Students decide what the system is and what is conserved before selecting a relationship, which makes multi-part questions much less fragile.
Where a topic is conceptual rather than numerical, it is still practised in writing, because that is how the examination will ask for it.
- Physical models built before equations are introduced
- Diagrams for forces, fields and wave situations
- Quantitative reasoning with symbols carried through
- Graph and data interpretation, including trends and gradients
- Extended responses that state a claim and support it
Data, Investigation and Exam Preparation
Data questions are approached by asking what the numbers are evidence of: which variable was changed, what the pattern suggests, and how confident the conclusion can be.
Investigation work is supported in the same terms — a clear question, a controlled method, and an honest account of uncertainty — rather than by supplying content to copy.
Closer to the examination, practice shifts to timing and structure: recognising the model quickly, laying out working so method marks are visible, and finishing extended responses with an evaluative sentence rather than a bare number.
